Move over Beyoncé, you've got company.
Mariah Carey is planning a surprise release similar to Queen Bey, the singer revealed in her cover story for the new issue of Billboard magazine.
Although she doesn't name Mrs. Carter directly in the story, she like Bey, is taking full control of the project. The album's track list, artwork, and music will be announced digitally all at once, followed by a physical release a week later. "I have to be the one that announces this, especially the title," she told the magazine. The title, Carey teased is a "personal possession" that is "part of an entity that I've had almost all my life."
Also featured in the cover story is Jermaine Dupri, Carey's longtime friend, music partner, and now manager. Everything about album No. 14 will be a bit different than her previous work, from the promotion to the production to the guestlist, Carey is open to taking more chances this time around. Producers Mike Will Made It and Hit-Boy are on board, and features include Wale, Nas, Trey Songz, and "a special guest star" that she's "not allowed to reveal."
The release is set to showcase power ballads and up-tempo tracks, and is one of two new projects she has in the works. "I have another project that I'm so very excited about that's finally coming to fruition," the 44-year-old mom of two said.
Carey's Billboard issue hits stands Monday (April 28).
