Celebrities Are In Awe Over Ava DuVernay’s Masterpiece ‘When They See Us’

Ava DuVernay’s limited series When They See Us debuted on Netflix on Friday (May 31) and it’s gotten poignant reaction from just about everyone, including celebrities.

The series portrays the story of the Central Park Five – five Black and Brown teenagers, including Antron McCray, Kevin Richardson, Yusef Salaam, Raymond Santana, and Korey Wise, who were wrongfully accused of brutally raping a Central Park jogger during the late 1980s.   • The men didn’t receive exonerations until 2002 and the case faded from the public spotlight until 2016 presidential campaign, when then-candidate Donald Trump re-condemned them innocent men for the crime they didn’t commit and defended his decision to take out a full page ad in the New York Times in 1989 demanding New York reinstate the death penalty in the wake of jogger assault.
