Serena Williams, Kanye and More Star in Nike’s “Kobe System” Ad
Kobe Bryant is releasing his 7th signature shoe, the Nike Zoom Kobe VII, and to get the word out, Nike has tapped a long list of A-list stars, athletes and entertainers (many of whom also have endorsements with the brand) to promote the new product in a cheeky “Kobe System” commercial.
The L.A. Laker sets the stage for the celeb-filled spot with a commercial that he appears in on his own that lists luxuries of being in the spotlight (awards, rings and yes, even filet mignon) before making his point: “you’re at the top and you don’t need anyone’s advice…that’s why I know you need mine. This is the Kobe System.” In a follow-up commercial over-achievers like Serena Williams, Kanye West, Jerry Rice, Virgin Group tycoon Richard Branson and comedian Aziz Ansari all share their spoof-like stories about life on the “Kobe System.”
“Kobe System completely changed how I see the world,” Serena starts off sarcastically before celebs muse what could be better. “What’s after Platinum?” “What’s higher than the top of the charts?” Kanye asks. “Is there anything better than a Grand-er Slam?” Serena wonders. “Kobe System is truth…the Kobe System changed my life no doubt,” Kanye says before they all thank the Kobe System.
The kicks retail for $180 and come with two interchangeable inserts dubbed Attack Fast and Attack Strong, in an effort to provide customizable cushioning and support depending on need. Its design was inspired by “predator instinct” with graphics and patterns that give a nod to the cheetah, great white shark and black mamba.
