Brandy and Erica Campbell's Daughters, Syrai Smith and Krista Campbell, Drop ‘Wicked’ Inspired by 'The Boy Is Mine' Remake
Syrai Smith and Krista Campbell, the daughters of Brandy and one-half of Mary Mary, Erica Campbell, could have R&B stardom in their futures.
As a tribute to Brandy and Monica’s 1998 Grammy-winning hit “The Boy Is Mine,” and new musical fantasy epic Wicked, Smith and Campbell dropped a surprise cover of the aforementioned song. Directed by Michael Korte, the video shows Smith dyed in green body paint, replicating Wicked’s Elphaba, while Campbell appears to honor Glinda the Good Witch from the legendary Broadway musical, and now, film adaptation starring Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo.
Proud mom Brandy shared the video on Instagram with a caption praising her daughter and Campbell’s tribute.
“A #Wicked version of THE BOY IS MINE starring @syraismith and @thekrissc. 💚 🩷 @MichaelKorte thank you for your vision. Girls, thank you for this amazing tribute to @MonicaDenise and I. Love you, @imericacampbell,” the singer wrote.
In the video’s description, Korte acknowledged the Wicked storyline, with a message that read,” I'm sorry that you, seem to be confused... he belongs to me, Fiyero's mine!”
He continued, “Dedicated to Brandy Norwood, Monica Arnold, LaShawn Daniels, Rodney Jerkins, Cythia Erivo, Ariana Grande & everyone that has ever felt a little green.”
Grande put her own spin on “The Boy Is Mine” as a remake on her seventh album, Eternal Sunshine, released in March. Joining her on the remix was Brandy and Monica, which is now Grammy-nominated in the Best Pop Duo/Group Performance category. In “The Boy Is Mine” music video, Brandy and Monica play news reporters, while Grande’s love interest is played by Penn Badgley from the Netflix thriller You.
