Stacey Abrams Says She’s “Likely” Going to Run Again
Embodying all the energy of that saying, “If at first you don’t succeed, try try again!” Stacey Abrams says nobody should count her out of politics.
The former Georgia Democratic lawmaker who was unsuccessful twice in her run for governor of the state, Abrams joined actress Drew Barrymore on her daytime television show. Abrams said, “I will likely run again.” However, she didn’t tell the actress which position she’d be seeking. The next time she could contend for the Georgia governor’s mansion will be in 2026.
Abrams first ran for governor in 2018 and lost to Republican Brian Kemp by a mere 55,000 votes in 2018. During their rematch in November 2021, Abrams fell short by just shy of 300,000 votes.

Despite not winning against Kemp, Abrams has proven herself, as The Hill reports, as a fundraising giant among Democrats. She raised $113 million for her 2022 campaign and $27 million in 2018 during her races for governor.
Since her time as a candidate, Abrams has pursued the expansion of voting rights throughout the Peachtree State and beyond. Building the organizations Fair Fight and the New Georgia Project, she is working against the disenfranchisement of Black and poor voters in Georgia, and nationwide. At the same time, Abrams has built two of the largest voting rights organizations in the state, and has dedicated much of her career to expanding access to the ballot box in disenfranchised communities.
She told Barrymore, “My first responsibility is to make sure anyone who wants to vote can,” and continued,“Protecting democracy is not about a person. It’s about the ideals.”
