Jay Z's Made in America Festival Green-lighted for LA

Hov announces bi-coastal concert dates in Philly and SoCal, over Labor Day weekend.

The Budweiser Made in America Festival is set to invade Grand Park in downtown Los Angeles over Labor Day weekend, Jay Z and L.A. Mayor Eric Garcetti announced at a press conference this morning.

Jay, Garcetti, Budweiser VP Brian Perkins, and Live Nation CEO Michael Rapino assembled at City Hall in downtown Los Angeles to officially welcome the annual music fest to Southern California.

The 2014 Made in America fest will be a simultaneous bi-coastal event. The fest will happen in its original stomping grounds, Philadelphia, over the same holiday weekend, August 30-31.

Show lineups will be announced early next month, Billboard reports.

What started out as a dream two years ago has grown into a popular destination for music lovers amid a sea of other summer shows. "I had a vision of putting together a festival that blurred those lines of genres," noted the Roc Nation founder.

"I want to thank Budweiser for putting together a show that's in the city, not some far-off place you can't get to," Jay added. "No disrespect to any other festivals, no shots. Look how beautiful this park is, it's accessible to everyone, it's inclusion, it's not exclusion. We started two years ago in Philadelphia and had huge success, and I'm sure we'll have even more success here in Los Angeles. We're very proud to be here in America."

Before Made in America was approved for L.A., Councilman Joe Huizar filed a motion to stop the city from issuing a permit without additional information on costs, and potential safety concerns for residents in the downtown L.A. area.

Now in its third annual run, Made in America is fast on the trail of expansion. Last year's concert, which featured  the likes of Beyoncé, Kendrick Lamar, Macklemore and Ryan Lewis, and 2 Chainz, was attended by upwards of 80,000 over two days, an increase of more than double from the year before.
