Ice Cube: NWA Biopic Is Close to Production
Bringing the story of NWA to the big screen is high on Ice Cube's priority list, the rapper and filmmaker says. Though he's been talking a lot lately about an upcoming Friday sequel, Cube says it's probably the NWA biopic that's likely to make it to theaters first.
The Barbershop star, who seems to be spearheading both projects, tells Sway that the script is "tight" and the search is on for the right director. John Singleton, F. Gary Gray, Craig Brewer and Peter Berg have all been under consideration at one point or another, but Cube didn't confirm any one name.
As for casting, though both Eazy E's son and daughter have been eyeing parts in the film (the late rapper's son even claimed he would be the best fit to play his father), Cube clarified that no one has been promised any part.
The only thing he would confirm is that none of the original NWA members, himself included, would be making cameos in the film.
