Patrick Ewing Wants To Coach NY
Patrick Ewing, the former New York Knicks star who took the team to numerous Playoff games and even to the Finals in 1994 but who also never got a ring, loves the game too much to leave it alone. Since his retirement in 2003, Ewing has stayed on the side of the court as an assistant coach to the Wizards, the Rockets and most recently Orlando, where he works closely with team star Dwight Howard.
It seems odd that being one of the greatest players in the league and never leaving the game doesn’t even get him an interview, according to the New York Daily News. Even though Ewing has been holding it down with Orlando for the last four seasons he admits he would love to return to New York. And the city would love to have him.
Following a CenterStage interview yesterday, the Daily News quotes the athlete saying, "It's disappointing that I haven't moved to the next step to getting a head coaching job, but all I can do is keep working hard and keep on preparing myself for whenever that opportunity arises." Hopefully this day will arrive sooner than later.
