Charles Hamilton Signs to Republic Records
Charles Hamilton has a new deal worth smiling about. According to Complex, the Harlem rapper signed with Republic Records and will release his debut on the label later this year.
“Charles is back and the excitement for his return is immeasurable,” said Monte Lipman, CEO of Republic Records. “The enthusiasm in the marketplace is overwhelming and we are thrilled to participate in the evolution of his career.”
“New York Raining,” featuring Rita Ora, serves as the album’s lead single, in addition to appearing on the Empire soundtrack.
A noticeably excited Hamilton debuted the song during his show Los Angeles earlier in the week. “Thanks for all the love, I just feel so good,” he told the crowd.
The now 27-year-old rapper looks to be in a better head space than in the past. In 2009, Hamilton was famously punched in the face by an ex-girlfriend while freestyling in a video that later went viral.
He checked himself into a psychiatric hospital in July of the next year, and was arrested for assaulting a cop five months later.
