Chance the Rapper Isn't Going to Let Bootleg Merchandise Slide

The Chicago emcee has filed a preemptive lawsuit.

Chance the Rapper continues to be a champion for independent artists to look to for inspiration and guidance, most recently taking preemptive action against merchandise bootleggers.

In the past, the Chicago native has taken a stand against those who scalp his tickets, once buying back tickets from a sold-out show in order to ensure accurate pricing for his real fans. Now, the rapper is working to make sure that those who are looking to make a buck off of his artwork illegally will think twice about doing so.

As reported, Chance has filed a preemptive lawsuit agains those who sell unauthorized merchandise outside of his concert dates.

According to reports, Chance the Rapper LLC owns the "Chance the Rapper" trademark and has filed a complaint as a preemptive strike against bootleggers looking to capitalize off of his brand.

While the unauthorized merch likely will still be sold outside venues along his upcoming month-long tour, the motion is looking to protect Chance's brand, which potentially could suffer from quality control as a result of the action of bootleggers. As reported, Chance is beginning to build a case looking for "injunctive and monetary relief" as a result of those selling unofficial Chance the Rapper merchandise.

Taking to Twitter, the rapper confirmed reports, adding, "Im on that with any nonartists trying to reap the financial benefits of art at the expense of artists CC: whoever felt targeted reading this."
