Jermaine Hopkins, the chubby actor who is best remembered for his role in the 1989 classic film Lean on Me, was arrested in Arizona for allegedly buying 200 pounds of marijuana from an undercover police officer.
TMZ reports that Hopkins, who lives in North Carolina, has been charged with two felony counts of possessing, transporting and trying to sell marijuana.
The 38-year-old, according to police, traveled to Arizona to make the illegal purchase on Tuesday. The deal was set up as part of a sting operation. Once Hopkins took possession of the cannibus, his SUV was pulled over by police, who then arrested him. Reportedly, police found $100,000 in his vehicle. When police later searched Hopkins's apartment in Arizona, they claimed they found another 100 pounds of marijuana.
Hopkins, who also starred in 1992 classic Juice, is being held on $35,000 bond, and if he is convicted, he will face up to five years in prison.
Why did the actor get involved with the deal? Police say he told them the reason was because he wanted to provide a nice Christmas for his family.
