Jay-Z Wins Sports Emmy for Super Bowl Performance
It's no secret that Jay-Z is a sports buff. The megawatt rapper frequently makes sports references in his lyrics, turns up courtside at games, and even owns part of the New Jersey Nets. Now though he's not an athlete himself, the sports world is showing Hov a little love in return.
In recognition of his performance at the top of 2010's Super Bowl XLIV, Jay-Z has been announced as the recipient of a Sports Emmy for Outstanding Music Composition/Direction/Lyrics. The performance was a special rendition of Jay's "Run This Town" featuring Rihanna from his platinum 2009 album, The Blueprint III, and featured orchestral arrangements, care of the E.S. Posthumus music group.
Also honored by the Sports Emmys were recent Jay-Z collaborators U2, who performed during the World Cup last year with the Soweto Gospel Choir.
