KFC Comes For Popeyes By Adding A New Chicken And Glazed Doughnut Sandwich To The Menu
Fresh off our sizzlin’ Hot Chicken Summer, KFC is insistent on continuing the infamous chicken sandwich war that took over summer 2019. You may not think you need a doughnut on the side of your chicken meal, but KFC disagrees!
Now that the dust has settled with the spicy chicken sandwich wars between Popeyes and Chick-Fil-A, KFC continues to throw their hat in the ring by offering new alternatives to their classic chicken options. It’s no secret that crispy, savory fried chicken pairs perfectly with sweet, sugary flavors considering the fact that chicken and waffles is a commonplace menu item at any weekend brunch spot. So, it’s no wonder KFC is testing glazed doughnuts in more than 40 locations in Pittsburgh, Norfolk and Richmond, according to Business Insider.
KFC announced that they will be testing a "Chicken and Donuts" menu with three options: a chicken tender or bone-in chicken basket meal with one doughnut for $5.50 or two doughnuts $7.50 on the side, a chicken sandwich with doughnut buns for $6 or a combo for $8, or an additional doughnut added to any meal for $1. Sounds like a good deal to us!
Twitter is definitely torn on the introduction of the glazed doughnut menu item, with some users expressing their craving for the new salty and sweet meal and others noting their distaste of adding the sugary pastry to their already high-calorie menu. And other users just used this as an opportunity to troll KFC!
Though the chicken-and-doughnut concept isn’t a new food combo phenomenon, it seems that fast food chains continue to attempt to make trendy food items available to their customers. Would you try KFC’s newest glazed doughnut and fried chicken combo?
