Mobb Deep on The Infamous : We Was Wilin' Back Then
Hard to believe it's been twenty years since Mobb Deep exploded onto the hip hop scene with their seminal album The Infamous. The album influenced the sound of rap giants that came years, even decades later — everyone from the Clipse to Kendrick Lamar pay homage to the Queens MCs. Two decades after Prodigy declared, "I'm only 19 but my mind is older," the rapper and his partner Havoc reflect on the impact of their debut album in an exclusive interview with BET.com.
On listening to The Infamous today, Havoc says, "It brings me back to the projects, back to the time when we were trying to get on and didn't know nothing about the business." Adds Prodigy, "When I listen back to the album, sometimes I bug out, like, 'Damn, that's us. We was wilin' back then.'"
Check out the video with Havoc and Prodigy, in which they talk about their influences, what was happening in their lives when they recorded The Infamous and more, below.
