Jennifer Hudson has won the Chairman’s Award at the Palm Springs International Film Awards.
According to Deadline, the Oscar-winning actress’ effort for playing the iconic artist, Aretha Franklin, in Respect over the summer sealed the deal for the coveted honor. She will receive the recognition at the in-person gala on Jan. 6 ahead of the 2022 Palm Springs Festival.
“In Respect, Jennifer Hudson brings to life Aretha Franklin’s rise from childhood gospel singer to international star. Hudson transforms into the Queen of Soul singing her heart out in this legendary performance,” festival chairman Harold Matzner said.
Adding, “It is our honor to recognize Jennifer Hudson’s phenomenal acting and singing talents with the Chairman’s Award.”
The Respect biopic also starred Forest Whitaker as C.L. Franklin, Audra McDonald as Barbara Franklin, Marlon Wayans as Ted White, Tituss Burgess as Reverend Dr. James Cleveland and others.
In 2007, Hudson won a Palm Springs honor for her role in Dreamgirls, where she played Effie White.
