Mariah Carey Severs Ties With Manager Jermaine Dupri
Mariah Carey has severed ties with manager Jermaine Dupri, Billboard reports. Sources say Carey is working with former record exec Kevin Liles and his management imprint, KWL Entertainment, although nothing has been set in stone.
Dupri confirmed the business split via a statement to Billboard. "I'm a very hands-on person when it comes to my work. I put my all into every project. But when I'm not allowed to do what I do, then I know it's time for me to move on," he said. "Mariah and I enjoy working together and will continue to make great music together in the future."
Carey hired the So So Def founder as her manager last year, she and Liles have been working together since June.
The management switch comes less than three months after Carey released Me I Am Mariah: The Elusive Chanteuse. Her 14th LP has sold only 103,000 copies since May 27 and falls off the Billboard 200 album charts as of this week. The album's last single was February's "You're Mine (Eternal)," which rested at No. 88 on the Hot 100.
Teaming with Liles could help get Carey back to the top of the charts. He currently manages Trey Songz, whose Trigga release debuted at No. 1, selling 105,000 units in the first week.
