Secondary characters from the N.W.A flick like Snoop Dogg, Tupac and Knight are the focus of the sequel.

The book Welcome to Death Row, was penned by S. Leigh Savidge who was also one of the writers on Straight Outta Compton. It’s unclear if Dr. Dre will play a behind-the-scenes role in follow-up film. Though he once co-owned the label, things between Dre and Death Row didn’t end on a good note.

Death Row was co-founded by Knight, along with help from Dre, who was the lead producer for the label, as well as an artist on the roster. After Dre split from the imprint, Tupac became the face of Death Row, while Snoop, Dre, Tha Dogg Pound and Nate Dogg, were some of the other artists signed to Death Row in its heyday.

By the late ‘90s however, 'Pac was killed and Death Row eventually backslid into financial ruin. It was later sold to a new owner, and Knight is currently awaiting trial for murder.

Knight’s lawyer slammed Straight Outta Compton over its depiction of the former mogul. The film has raked in more than $100 million in less than a month, to become the highest grossing music biopic in history.
