Marlon Wayans Reflects on His Final Moments with Tupac
During a recent appearance on Shannon Sharpe’s “Club Shay Shay” podcast, Marlon Wayans opened up about his final encounter with Tupac, just minutes before the late rapper was tragically shot.
“I saw Tupac in Vegas at The Luxor 20 minutes before he got shot,” Wayans recalled. “I seen Suge and all these cars and thugs and reds. I turned white, I was like… ‘M-m-m-maybe we shouldn’t go over there. Let’s just wave from here.’”
Although Wayans was hesitant, his friend and fellow actor Omar Epps urged him to greet Tupac. Wayans felt uneasy, suspecting something might go wrong. “Are you sure? It sure looks like a lot of trouble over there,” he asked Epps. Nevertheless, they went up to Tupac, exchanged a few words, and then went their separate ways.
“He was looking at us like, ‘Man, I miss that freedom, I miss that fun,’” Wayans continued.“He was just in this chaos. There was a part of him that wished that… It was like the innocence. [He wished that] he could just go with the innocence.”
Just 20 minutes later, word spread that Tupac had been shot, prompting Wayans to reflect on their last interaction. The two worked together on the 1994 movie “Above The Rim.”
