Jay Z and Beyoncé Attend Trayvon Martin Rally
Stars Jay Z and Beyoncé attended one of the 100 rallies held around the country today as part of the Justice for Trayvon National Day of Action, following the acquittal of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin's killer, George Zimmerman.
Reverend Al Sharpton told the New York City crowd that the duo was in attendance, saying that, "two of the baddest artists of all time" were there, according to The Huffington Post. "Jay Z and Beyoncé said they didn't want to speak and they didn't come for a photo op. Beyoncé put a beautiful message up on Instagram.
"Let me tell you that before a lot of you were down, Jay Z always supported us." Sharpton continued, "Jay Z told me, 'I'm a father. Beyoncé is a mother.' We all feel the pain and apprehension — the laws must protect everybody, or it doesn't protect anybody. We do not come from hate, we come from love of children."
The rallies were arranged to put pressure on the U.S. Justice Department to bring charges against Zimmerman for violating Martin's civil rights. Bey asked the crowd for a moment of silence for Martin at her concert when the verdict was handed down last weekend, then sang her version of Whitney Houston's "I Will Always Love You."
