Justin Bieber Reveals Former Drug Abuse In New ‘Seasons’ Documentary

“My security would come into my room at night to check my pulse…”

Ahead of the release of his upcoming album, Justin Bieber has been laying bare some of the  demons he faced throughout his music career in a  YouTube original docuseries, Seasons

Bieber exploded onto the music scene as a fresh-faced teenager after he was first discovered by R&B superstar Usher through his YouTube covers. Bieber's career soon became mired in controversy after his name became a mainstay in tabloids through 2013 and 2014 following multiple brushes with the law.

  • The 25-year-old recalled the dark path he was spiraling down in the latest episode of his series, titled The Dark Season, where he opened up about his past struggles with drug abuse and his ensuing journey to sobriety after his career hit a low moment in the public eye. Bieber revealed that he initially turned to drugs to cope with the pressures of fame and started smoking marijuana at the age of 13. But he found himself spiraling even deeper after he became dependent on harder substances, according to E! News.

  • “There was a time when I was sipping lean, popping pills, doing Molly, shrooms, everything,” the 25-year-old recounted in the docuseries, according to the entertainment outlet. “I was young, like everybody in the industry and people in the world who experiment and do normal, growing up things. But my experience was in front of cameras and I had a different level of exposure. I had a lot of money and a lot of things.”

The “Yummy” singer attributed his public lashing out to his rough childhood, admitting that he “started valuing the wrong things in this business” as his fame grew. His wakeup call came after a “scary” moment forced him to reassess the path he was heading down and seek sobriety.

  • “My security would come into my room at night to check my pulse. People don't know how serious it got,” he confessed. “It was legit crazy, scary. I was waking up in the morning and the first thing I was doing was popping pills and smoking a blunt, and starting my day. It just got scary.”

Thankfully, Bieber has managed to turn his life around and find more healthier ways to deal with stress, which he also delved into for the episode. As for others who faced similar personal battles, he offered some uplifting words of encouragement.

“Sometimes when life throws you things you can't control, your natural attitude is to be upset or to be disappointed or discouraged,” he shared. “There's people that are going through it with you. Life is worth living. If you're not gonna give up, the only thing to do is push forward.”
