50 Cent Reveals Story Behind How The 'Power' Theme Song Remix Came About
50 Cent and Power fans finally reached a ceasefire in their weeks-long battle over the critically acclaimed gangster drama’s theme song, “Big Rich Town.”
Avid viewers of the Starz series hounded the G-Unit founder for weeks on end to bring back the show’s original opener featuring veteran R&B crooner Joe after he replaced it with the Trey Songz-helmed remix.
On Sunday, Fif surrendered and brought back the beloved version for the third episode of the season. But according to 50’s latest Breakfast Club interview, it seems he might have already predicted fans’ scorching reception of the remixed theme song.
The Queens-native caught up with The Breakfast Club crew while making his promotion rounds for the latest and final season of the hit series. Right off the bat, the Power 105.1 hosts wondered how Trey took the news when he heard fans fans were not jiving with his rendition.

“How did you call Trey and be like, ‘Yo, Trey. We not using that one?'” DJ Envy asked, imagining that the R&B heartthrob was probably a little unhappy at fan’s reactions.
Fifty blew the hosts’ minds with the revelation that Trey was also against changing the theme song. The way the “Bottoms Up” singer saw it, he and Fif shouldn’t fix what wasn’t broken, and the original “Big Rich Town” theme was certainly intact.Fifty admitted it took a little convincing on his part to get Trey to oblige
“I just came in the studio to get him to do it,” he recollected. “I came in the studio and was like ‘Yo, I want to re-do the song.’ He was like, ‘What?’ He was really like, ‘Why you want to do that?’ I was like, ‘Nah, listen to the joint.' When I played it for him, A Boogie [had] already did his part. The old chorus was playing in the filler spot, and he was like, ‘Oh OK, yeah.’”
Much to Fifty’s chagrin, Trey’s first instinct would prove to be correct, and he was not shy about letting 50 know.
"I got a text right away, ‘I told yo’ a*ss. I told you not to do that,’" 50 explained jokingly. "I was like, ‘Yo, you right.''
Listen to 50 Cent’s hilarious back story of the “Big Rich Town” remix that went horribly wrong, making peace with Megan Thee Stallion and Moneybagg Yo and what he has in store for the series’ Mary J. Blige-lead sequel, Power Book II.
