Q&A: Tamera Mowry Talks Love and Life

Newlywed says: "I love married life"

Tia and Tamera Mowry have been on television together since their ‘90s sitcom Sister, Sister so it’s no surprise that they’d document their latest life milestones on camera. Their Style Network series Tia & Tamera, premiering August 8, follows the twins as they prepare for the birth of Tia’s baby and Tamera’s wedding to Adam Housley, who she married May 15. In an interview with BET.com, she dishes about her man, her sister, and her future family plans.

How’s married life?

I love it. I really do. The first month is a huge transition but you don’t realize that until you get married. It’s all about compromise and molding two different people into one.  But I’m absolutely loving it. He’s an amazing man and an amazing partner.

How did you meet Adam?

I met him through my college professor. We dated for seven years. Our love grew slowly but surely. I knew I could spend the rest of my life with him.

How did he propose?
It was a very intimate, private moment in our hotel room in Venice, Italy. He got on one knee.

Was the wedding filmed for the show?
The ceremony wasn’t, but we did everything leading up to it, and there’s a beautiful picture montage.

How was the honeymoon?
It was amazing. Adam is an amazing traveler and one reason why I fell in love with him. He loves culture and loves to learn what’s going on in the world. We went to Santorini, Rhodes and Athens in Greece, and Istanbul, Bodrum and Ephesus in Turkey.

Since you didn’t live together before, are you discovering any personality quirks?

I’m learning that he loves to hang things on the shower and collect little things that mean a lot to him. I have to find a way to make them look good around the house.

Tia & Tamera covers the time leading up to your wedding and Tia’s delivery. How was it having the cameras in your lives?
After a while they become like a fly on the wall, you really don’t notice. But it definitely took some getting used to.

What did you two learn about yourselves while making it?

Tia and I have always been close. I think what we’re noticing is that we’re two different people. We look alike but our perspectives on life are completely different. Tia is more assertive, I’m more passive but emotional though. Tia is kind of straightforward. I speak from the heart; she speaks from her mind.

How has your relationship changed?
Before, we were attached at the hip, and now there are times when we don’t see each other as much as we want to.

Now that Tia’s a mom, are you planning to have kids soon?

Seeing her go through motherhood, it’s a lot of work. It’s something you want to make sure you’re ready for. No one is always 100 percent ready. I want to enjoy my marriage first, for at least two years.

Tia has The Game—are you looking for a series or movie project?
I’m trying to find my next vehicle. I took a six month break—planning a 300-person wedding is a job in itself—and now I’m jumping back into it. I can’t wait to see what’s next. I want to create my own charity, getting inner-city kids to read more. And I want to produce my own films.
