Charlize Theron has become a mom via adoption. The Oscar-winning actress has adopted a baby boy named Jackson. Announcement of the adoption was made Wednesday by a spokesperson. No further details were given. However, UsMagazine.com is reporting the child is African-American. 

The Monster star has publicly expressed her desire to have a child without being married in a 2008 interview.

Aside from Theron adopting, the biggest breakthrough of her bundle of joy is the fact that adoption as a single parent may not have been possible even as recently as the 1970s, when such adoptions were illegal in some states.

But that's changed and now single-parent adoptions are allowed in every U.S. state, according to the University of Oregon's Adoption History Project.
