Michael Vick One of Richest NFL Players With $100 Million Deal
Michael Vick’s comeback from the dog-fighting scandal that landed him in federal prison for 18 months is complete after the Philadelphia Eagles committed to the quarterback in major way Monday by again making him one of the highest-paid players in the NFL.
The Associated Press reported that Vick has agreed to a six-year contract worth $100 million, with $40 million guaranteed. It’s hard to believe in just two years Vick has gone from being an ex-felon that few NFL teams wanted to take a chance on to a third-string Eagles quarterback to emerging as their starter last season.
And along the way there have been many successes both on and off the field. Vick, 31, has embraced his status as a role model, speaking to children about staying out of trouble and becoming an advocate against animal abuse. He also led the Eagles to the NFC championship game, earned a spot in the Pro Bowl and was named the AP Comeback Player of the Year last season.
This new contract puts Vick close to the $130 million, 10-year contract he signed with the Atlanta Falcons in 2005 but was voided when he went to prison. Vick was set to make $16 million this season after being designated the Eagles’ franchise player this past offseason.
