Boosie BadAzz Uses Hazing Victim’s Name for Festival Promo, Family Threatens Lawsuit

The rapper promoted his Boosie Bash festival with a scholarship in honor of late Southern University student, Caleb Wilson.

The family of late Southern University student Caleb Wilson wants Boosie BadAzz to refrain from using their son’s name in a planned scholarship.

Earlier this month, three suspects were arrested in Wilson’s death by hazing. Wilson, who was 20 years old, attended Southern University and A&M College and was killed in an off-campus Omega Psi Phi hazing ritual in February. The late student was allegedly punched in the chest multiple times during the incident, which caused him to collapse and later die from his injuries. Wilson was transported to a hospital by a group of men who claimed that he had collapsed while playing basketball, before it was revealed that the incident took place in a warehouse.

Seemingly in honor of Wilson, Boosie recently announced that he was creating a scholarship dedicated to the student with funds from his annual Boosie Bash festival. The event, which was held from March 21-23 at Southern University, included performances by GloRilla, Sexyy Red, DaBaby, Boosie, and more.

On Monday, March 24, Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill defended Wilson’s surviving family, expressing that the memorial scholarship was a disgrace and misappropriation.

In conversation with WBRZ-TV, the attorney called the fund a “dramatic misrepresentation and misappropriation of Caleb’s name and image to support a for-profit event without the consent of Caleb’s parents.”

She continued, “All of this apparently came together in a very short order, and I think the promoters saw an opportunity to promote the event on the backs of people who just suffered an unimaginable loss.”

Murill also claimed that Wilson’s family seeks legal action, although Boosie claimed that the scholarship was created in partnership with the late student’s father, Corey Wilson.

“ITS SAD FOR THIS LAWYER [AND] FAMILY TO SAY I PROMOTED MY EVENT OFF SOMEONES PASSING. MY EVENT WAS PROMOTED ON EVENTBRITE SINCE NOV 14,” Boosie wrote on X, formerly Twitter. “THIS INCIDENT HAPPENED A WEEK BEFORE MY EVENT WAS TO TAKE PLAC. HOW THE FUCK CAN I CAPITALIZE OFF SOMEONE DEATH FOR A CONCERT. THAT AINT ME.”
