Rick Ross, Trina, Trick Daddy, and More Honored With Street Names in Miami

Miami-Dade County celebrates its hip-hop icons by renaming streets and unveiling mural plans in Liberty City.

Miami is showing love to its hometown heroes in a major way. The Miami-Dade County Commission has officially approved new street names to honor South Florida’s music legends, from pioneers like Trick Daddy and Trina to chart-toppers like Rick Ross and City Girls.

The initiative, led by District 3 Commissioner Keon Hardemon, is part of a broader plan to revitalize Liberty City and celebrate the cultural identity that shaped Miami’s sound.

“If you play this music to the people who are from this area, they are going to light up like it’s the Fourth of July,” Hardemon told NBC6. “The essence of this is to encourage economic development in our community... to let people know that this exists in Miami-Dade County, and you should come and see it.”

The renamed streets will be located on 8th Avenue in Liberty City, a neighborhood rich with history and deep musical roots. “In the 1950s or so, during the time of segregation,18th Avenue was the place to be,” Hardemon explained. “It had juke joints, it had bars, it had restaurants, and it had living quarters… that’s why they named it Broadway.”

To be considered, honorees had to meet specific criteria—think Billboard hits, cultural impact, and community engagement. The new street signs will shine a light on artists who’ve repped Miami to the fullest, including the aforementioned artists as well as  Ball Greezy, Mike Smiff, Uncle Luke, DJ Khaled, and City Girls. Music icons like Betty Wright, Pitbull, and Flo Rida are also on the honor roll.

For the families behind the names, this recognition hits home. “It gives you hope,” Rondo Smiff, brother of Mike Smiff, told CBS News. “It lets you know that no matter where you start, you always have a destination.” His mother added, “We’ve gone from being working homeless to now having a legacy for our grandkids and for the community.”

Along with the new street names, murals honoring local artists are also in the works—bringing the neighborhood’s musical legacy front and center. Check out the list of new names below.
