Erykah Badu Stays ‘On Trend,’ Claims to Have ‘Vandalized’ Her Tesla

Badu has joined surmounting protests against the controversial Elon Musk-owned company.

Erykah Badu has joined the anti-Elon Musk protests by turning on Tesla.

On Sunday, March 23, the five-time Grammy winner claimed on X, formerly Twitter, that she had “vandalized” her Tesla, with the automotive company being owned by Musk. “Trying to stay on trend,” Badu said about her decision to damage her car.

Since February, millions of car consumers have begun to turn their backs on Tesla by boycotting the company and participating in protests outside nationwide dealerships. According to reports, the demonstrations occur due to Musk’s role as de facto head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) and the slashing of federal jobs. In addition, the company has faced an onslaught of safety concerns regarding technological glitches, brake failures, and more. At the same time, protests have gotten more extreme, with a Las Vegas Tesla location being set ablaze last week.

We’re sure that Ms. Badu can afford a new vehicle, but the neo-soul pioneer currently has her sights on releasing her first album in 15 years, which will be produced by The Alchemist. The LP will be Badu’s latest since dropping her fifth album, “New Amerykah Part Two (Return of the Ankh)” in 2010. On Saturday, March 29, the vocalist will be honored with the Icon Award at the  Billboard Women In Music 2025 ceremony.
