‘Love Jones’ Stars Larenz Tate and Nia Long Reunite for Nostaligic Walmart Holiday Commerical
Larenz Tate and Nia Long are giving social media a severe case of "Love Jones" nostalgia in their latest reunion. This time, the duo is reuniting for a heartwarming Walmart holiday commercial filled with sweet nods to the iconic 1997 film.
The quick ad kicks off with Dionne Farris’ “Hopeless” playing as Nina (Long) opens an early Christmas gift from her husband, Darius (Tate)—a Victrola record player.
The moment feels straight out of the movie when Darius replies, “You know I don’t like to wait,” referencing that unforgettable scene where he says, “This here, right now, at this very moment, is all that matters to me.”
And, of course, Tate delivers that classic line, “Mind if I play something for you?” as The Isley Brothers fill the room. Fans will immediately recognize it as a callback to the CD Darius gifts Nina in the film.
In the commercial, their daughter, taking after her mom, captures a photo of Nina and Darius dancing to the slow jam.
Unfortunately for fans of the iconic film, Tate dampened hopes for a sequel in October 2023, telling AL.com, “It would be hard for us to catch lightning in the bottle twice.” However, he and Long have been talking about what “Love Jones 2” could look like.
