Details Emerge on Ochocinco NFL Firing, Abuse Claims
Chad Johnson's alleged attack on wife Evelyn Lozada may not have been an isolated incident.
A source close to the couple anonymously tells RadarOnline.com that the newlyweds have a history of abuse. "Chad has been abusive towards Evelyn basically from the beginning of their relationship," the source says.
"Chad doesn't like Evelyn's party lifestyle and it made his anger worsen. He hated the way she acted on TV and would often lash out at her for any little thing."
The insider also claims the couple's short-lived marriage is no surprise to those in their inner circle. "Chad and Evelyn's marriage was volatile in nature and a mistake from the start," the pal says. "He [Chad] went off the scale at her once because he was tired of having Evelyn's friends, like her assistant and stuff, living in his house."
At one point, friends feared for Lozada's life when she made a startling confession. "She told me that Chad threatened to kill her one time and that was really a red flag," the source says. "But only a small circle of her friends knew what was going on and it was hard to convince her to get out of the situation."
Meanwhile, the NFL player's life seems to be crumbling around him. He was dropped by the Miami Dolphins earlier this week, and the firing seems to have been caught on tape by cameras for HBO's sports show Hard Knocks, which frequently films behind-the-scenes activities of the NFL team.
While VH1 has decided to cancel Ev and Ocho, the reality spin-off based on Lozada and Johnson's seemingly picture-perfect romance, HBO decided to air the firing on Hard Knocks. During the brief exchange between Johnson and coach Joe Philbin, Johnson appeared to be dishonest with his coach by telling him "I've never been in trouble before, ever."
TMZ later pointed out that Johnson was arrested in 2000 for slapping his then girlfriend.
Losing his marriage, job and two reality shows in one fell swoop isn't the end of Johnson's humiliation. Saturday's incident of domestic violence, in which the football player allegedly head-butted Lozada and gave her a 3" laceration to the forehead after she questioned him about a receipt for condoms found in his car, has also cost him a lucrative endorsement deal with Zico coconut water. The deal was less than a month old.
The consequences seem to be just beginning for Johnson, who must stand before a judge on criminal charges. Ochocinco broke his silence on Wednesday to thank the fans that are sticking by him.
"I haven't had to tread water in a long time...special thank you to my fans...family...friends for keeping me afloat..."
