Brooklyn Nets Cheerleader Outfits Get a Makeover

The streetwear-inspired uniforms have a NYC edge.

Now that the Nets are leaving New Jersey and moving to Brooklyn, the team's cheerleaders are getting a whole new look that's much edgier than their previous red, white and blue mini dresses. The black-and-white streetwear-inspired outfits include a jumpsuit, neoprene scuba blazer with sequin leggings, a cropped warm-up jacket and black boots with the word "Brooklyn" written on the sides.
"The uniforms are feminine and strong," David Dalrymple, the costume designer, told The New York Post. "This isn't palm trees and sunshine. It's New York City, and it's Brooklyn. It's a different sensibility. We go hard."
Dalrymple, who designed the Nets cheerleaders' previous outfits, is used to dreaming up pop star styles. He's designed costumes for the Sex and the City cast, Beyoncé, Mary J. Blige, and was behind Britney Spears' nude and diamond ensemble she wore during her performance at the 2000 MTV Music Awards.
“For these costumes, we needed things that these women can dance and move in, but we wanted to bring in street elements. We needed to find that bridge of street fashion that can actually work on the court.”
