During the trial, co-defendant Cornelius Smith testified that the murder was ordered by Anthony "Big Jook" Mims, the brother of fellow Memphis rapper Yo Gotti. According to Smith’s testimony, Mims placed a $100,000 bounty on Young Dolph and also put bounties on other artists signed to Dolph’s independent label, Paper Route Empire. The testimony suggested that the rivalry between Young Dolph’s label and Yo Gotti’s camp had escalated into deadly violence..
