On Wednesday, a top aide of Ben Carson’s was unceremoniously fired and escorted out of the Department of Housing and Urban Development headquarters by security officials.

During the vetting process of Shermichael Singleton, administrative officials discovered Singleton had written two critical articles about Trump, who at the time was in the late stages of his campaign.

Singleton, who was one of few Black Republicans in Trump's administration, worked as a senior adviser at the Department of Housing and Urban Development since Jan. 23.

Recently, Singleton was preparing to tour with Carson after his expected confirmation. However,  Singleton’s background check was not completed until this week. 

Before Trump was elected, Singleton wrote an editorial piece in The Hill that questioned if supporting Donald Trump’s rhetoric towards people of color was good for the GOP.

“I would like to see nothing more than a Republican win the White House this November, but I have to seriously ask myself if Trump is capable of doing just that,” Singleton wrote in his commentary for The Hill.

“I have attempted to remain hopeful and a part of me will continue do so, but Trump's antics make it impossible for any Republican — particularly a minority — to defend him, which can only mean bad things for the future of the GOP.”

While Singleton had been previously questioned about his writings and told advisers he no longer held the same concerns about Trump, the op-ed was presented as the reason for his termination.

"Shermichael is one of Dr. Carson's closest and most loyal advisers, an upstanding gentleman, and this one hurts. He was entrusted with drafting Dr. Carson's confirmation hearing opening statement. Singleton's firing came as a complete shock and has created serious concern that an adviser with Dr. Carson's best interest at heart no longer has the opportunity to provide official guidance."

As stories like these continue to surround Trump's administration, the White House looks increasingly chaotic, with some questioning if cabinet heads and senior advisers are being given the latitude to form their own teams.
