'The Wire’ Creator David Simon Calls Troll a ‘Racist Mutt’
David Simon, the creator and screenwriter of former HBO show “The Wire,” checked a troll on social media for making seemingly prejudiced comments about the series.
Simon, who’s now a frequent Bluesky user, briefly returned to X, formerly Twitter, when someone made troubling comments about “The Wire.”
The person called the show, which was on from 2002 to 2008, “an excellent series but total fantasy,” and called Black organized gangs “not that sophisticated, skilled, and organized.”
“it's mostly low iq petty crime. they're not even adept at that level,” they continued.
Simon reposted the offensive message and called the person a “racist mutt.” “Ed Burns, the co-creator of the television narrative, was the lead investigator on the Title III cases that encountered all of the counter-surveillance and organizational depth inherent in the Baltimore drug game. We used the real,” Simon wrote.
When another user expressed their excitement upon Burns’ return, he reiterated that he’s still active on Bluesky, but jad to respond to the person, as a “quick f**k you.”
In another post, Simon said the user was “race baiting.”
Although “The Wire” was a two-time Primetime Emmy Awards nominee, it never won an award, nor was it nominated for any Golden Globes during its five-season run.
