SZA Speaks Out Against Fat Shaming Aimed at Lizzo: ‘Practice Kindness’
Lizzo has been a target of online trolls since the beginning of her career. The plus-sized singer exudes body positivity and confidence—but that hasn’t protected her from detractors who talk negatively about her weight.
The singer responded to a tweet in May, writing, “I JUST logged on and the app and this is the type of s**t I see about me on a daily basis. It’s really starting to make me hate the world. Then someone in the comments said I eat “lots of fast food” I LITERALLY STOPPED EATING FAST FOOD YEARS AGO…I’m tired of explaining myself all the time and I just wanna get on this app w/out seeing my name in some b**lsh*t.”
Recently, SZA took to social media to defend the singer and questioned why others don't do the same. "I be wondering where all the virtue signaling, well spoken s--- talking , internet warriors are when someone genuine needs defending," wrote SZA. "Where the f--- do y’all be at for lizzo ? Do y’all actually know how to support others or only tear them down?"
She added another post in response to a fan questioning why more people don’t share love for Lizzo online.
She added, "I also dgaf who don't agree . It's been on my mind for a minute .. makes me upset," noting that she wants people to "practice kindness and shutting tf up more often cause G*DD*MN IT'S UGLY OUTSIDE ALREADY. Why add ?"
The two singers have previously collaborated on a remix of Lizzo's empowering hit single, "Special." They were also recently named the co-headliners of Jay-Z's Made in America Festival in Philadelphia.
Lizzo shared that she “unlocked” her Twitter to share the announcement.
