Look: President Obama's My Brother's Keeper Program Just Introduced a Very Cool Initiative
One of the most successful social programs started by President Obama has been My Brother’s Keeper. The MBK task force was put into motion to ensure that all of America’s young men of color have an opportunity to reach their full potential.
Tonight, ESPN will host a Town Hall with President Obama at North Carolina A&T State University to discuss a new initiative put forward for My Brother’s Keeper. The new initiative, titled First Job Compact, will help young people find jobs and internship opportunities. Additionally, the Sprint Corporation and its partners has announced they will provide one million high-school students who do not have the internet at home with new digital devices paired with four years of mobile broadband connectivity.
Here are some of the ways the new plans for My Brother’s Keeper will aid and serve America’s Black youth.
"Identify jobs and internships that can be filled by people ages 16-24 who have little or no prior experience"
For example, companies such as Gap Inc., New York Life Insurance, Chipotle Mexican Grill and CVS Health have committed to participating in the program and making sure they work to hire young people who may not have otherwise been given employment.
"Partner with nonprofits, school districts, workforce development boards and others to help identify and recruit opportunity youth"
"Develop a plan to support opportunity youth once hired so they can gain the skills and experiences needed to move up"
CVS Health will launch my CVS Journey. CVS Journey will be a series of STEM-enriched programs designed to inspire young people to seek a diverse set of career paths in health care, including retail pharmacy, professional management, nursing and information technology.
