Montell Jordan Opens Up About Beating Prostate Cancer
Singer Montell Jordan is a testament to the life-saving power of early health screenings.
The “This Is How We Do It” hitmaker recently shared with TMZ Hip Hop that he successfully overcame prostate cancer earlier this year, crediting early detection and the expertise of his medical team for his recovery.
While Jordan has mostly kept his health battle private, he did share a heartfelt update with fans earlier this month. Reflecting on the post, he said, “Even the social media post was kind of a non-speaking thing because I’m still like in the midst of finishing out that journey in life.”
After thorough research, Jordan decided to undergo a prostatectomy. “So I had my prostate removed about six weeks ago,” he explained.
On the other side of the procedure, the 56-year-old singer-turned-pastor says he feels incredible. “Great doctors and early detection” were key to his recovery, he shared.
Jordan also emphasized the importance of regular health check-ups, adding, “So, for me, [it’s] doing everything early, getting checked every year—super, super important. Two weeks later I was performing with Usher in Anaheim.”
Beyond his personal journey, Jordan hopes to use his story to encourage others to prioritize their health. He’s currently working on a documentary aimed at breaking the stigma surrounding health screenings. As he noted, “You want to catch it before it catches you.”
