Lil Wayne Reveals Phone Call With Kendrick Lamar After Super Bowl Halftime Show Decision
Despite his initial disappointment about the Super Bowl LIX halftime show, Lil Wayne has no hard feelings towards Kendrick Lamar.
The “Welcome 2 Collegrove” rapper appeared on “The Skip Bayless Show” on Monday, December 16, where he was asked about his feelings on being snubbed for Kendrick during the Apple Music Super Bowl LIX Halftime Show on February 11, 2025. While the Compton native will be headlining the set, many were upset as the game will be held at Caesars Superdome in Lil Wayne’s hometown of New Orleans. Kendrick would later namecheck Weezy on the “GNX” opener “Wacced Out Murals,” rapping, “Used to bump Tha Carter III, I held my Rollie chain proud/ Irony, I think my hard work let Lil Wayne down.”
But Wayne expressed pride for the 17-time Grammy winner but confessed that he hadn’t heard “Wacced Out Murals.”
“I think he's a fan like I'm a fan of his music,” Wayne said around the 3:40-minute mark of the video below. “I think he just mean … he saw what everybody else [saw]. He saw how much it meant to me. I think that's all he means.”
He continued, “Obviously, he can't control that, you know, so he didn't let me down. It ain't like he can control it or nothing.”
Wayne added that he and Kendrick had spoken over the phone and that he wished the West Coast emcee “all the best” ahead of the halftime show.
As for the “Wacced Out Murals” opener, Weezy said Kendrick didn’t need to explain. “I think he just mean that he made it there and his hard work is the reasonwhy he made it there,” Wayne said.
When asked by Bayless if he’ll make an on-stage cameo, Wayne disappointed viewers with the news that he won’t even be in the country during the Super Bowl LXI.
Upon the release of “GNX” last month, some assumed that Wayne was addressing Kendrick in a subliminal tweet about “Wacced Out Murals.”
“Man wtf I do?!” he wrote. “I just be chillin & dey still kome 4 my head. Let’s not take kindness for weakness. Let this giant sleep. I beg u all. No one really wants destruction, not even me but I shall destroy if disturbed. On me. Love.”
