TDE President Sees Bright Side to Kendrick Lamar Hoax

Terrence "Punch" Henderson responds to a fake story about K. Dot's next album.

Kendrick Lamar isn't done cooking up his new album, no matter how much the anticipation is ready to boil over. This past weekend, Rap Radar reported, and then retracted, what turned out to be a hoax announcing a new album from Lamar, The United States Of A.L.A.R.M., and a September release date.

Once other sites ran with the story, TDE manager retOne scolded the media for not fact checking. "Whats up with these fake a-- news stories. unless you see @dangerookipawaa talk about it, s--t aint real," he tweeted Saturday (May 10). "That goes for Interscope, news, blogs, etc…if u aint see it come directly from us #TDE dont believe em…”

Of course, the downside remains that fans still don't know exactly when Lamar will be unleashing his good kid, m.A.A.d city follow-up. And no one knows who was behind the fake album story. "I don't know where that came from. It's crazy," TDE president Terrence "Punch" Henderson told XXL. "I mean, everybody got access to Photoshop and they can do they thing. Do whatever they want," he said.

On another note, the hoopla is a good thing. "I just look at is as a positive," explained Henderson. "It builds anticipation. You know what I mean? If you're not getting those types of things, the album not getting leaked and all of that, it shows that there's no anticipation."

Although TDE has promised to drop six albums this year, the label hasn't confirmed exactly where Lamar's release will fall among the bunch. The next TDE project in line for release is likely Ab-Soul's major label debut, These Days.
