Nicki Minaj Dresses Up in 18th Century Costumes for W Magazine
Have a seat, “Roman” and “Martha” — Nicki Minaj tried on a whole new range of characters when she posed as a series of 18th Century looks for W magazine’s November Art & Fashion issue.
Photographer and artist Francesco Vezzoli was inspired by high-profile courtesans in his shoot. “My idea was to reproduce four iconic portraits of some of the most fascinating females of the past in a series starring an American pop-culture role model," he told W. "We tried to re-create those original portraits using similar furniture, props, and clothing, à la Visconti. Luckily enough, the result came out as surreal as it could be, just as I wished.”
The shots recreated historical portraits of the Marquise de Montespan, Comtesse du Barry, Madame de Pompadour and Madame Rimsky-Korsakov. And judging by the whimsical nature of the cover on which Nicki posed in an embellished, Victorian-themed ball gown draped in chiffon with an ornament dangling from her eye — we bet she felt right at home.
