Malcolm X's Daughter Pens Children's Book About Her Father

Malcolm Little: The Boy Who Grew to Become Malcolm X tells the story of his upbringing and parents' influence.

Malcolm X's daughter, Ilyasah Shabazz, is set to teach youth about her father, the civil rights icon, with her new children's book, Malcolm Little: The Boy Who Grew to Become Malcolm X. The picture-book biography lays out Malcolm X's life as he grew up, the role that his parents played in his life and how their beliefs in the Marcus Garvey movement shaped the man he'd become.
"I thought it was important to understand the values that went into a young boy to become a Malcolm X, one of the greatest political strategists," Shabazz said during a recent visit to the Melissa Harris-Perry Show.
"I think now it's just wonderful that we could put this children's book out, that we could humanize him, that we can see the values and accept this enormous figure," she continued. "He gave so much of himself. He was only in his twenties when the world learned of him. He was 39 when he was killed and look at all of what he did."
