The '90s were a crazy time, and while there wasn’t Twitter back then there was still sub-dissing (or sub-rapping) in hip-hop.

Take Notorious B.I.G.’s famous “I Got a Story to Tell,” for example, references a New York Knicks player during the song in a well, sexually explicit manner, however many didn’t know specifically who he was talking about. It’s been a huge mystery to the general public since the song was released almost 20 years ago.

Back in 2014, former Knicks player John Starks made an appearance on ESPN’s Highly Questionable and was grilled about who Biggie was referring to on the track. He refused to answer the question, fueling speculation that it might have been about him... It wasn’t.

Yesterday (May 16), everyone found out who the mystery player was as Fat Joe, who was close to B.I.G. up until his death, made an appearance on the same ESPN show and spilled the beans to hosts Bomani Jones and Dan LeBatard.

“It was about Anthony Mason, rest in peace,” he said when asked about who was referenced in the song. “I mean, it’s been, like, that was the, you know, that was like… It was about Ant Mason. Ant Mason’s my brother. I love Ant Mason. But you got to also know that rap is entertainment. So we stretch the truth. We change things up. We lie. We stretch things.”

You can tell Joe tried to cover his tracks a little bit in respect of the now-deceased Knick great. Also during the interview the Bronx native remembered the craziest situation he’s ever been in, and if you know Joe’s rugged past, the insanity of what he reveals even still may shock you. It involves a lot of guns.
