President Biden Delivers Remarks Following Trump’s Win Over Harris
President Joe Biden delivered his first address to the nation following Donald Trump’s victory over Kamala Harris in the 2024 presidential election, urging unity among Americans.
“Setbacks are unavoidable, but giving up is unforgivable,” Biden said Thursday morning (Nov. 7). “A defeat does not mean we are defeated.”
He acknowledged the outcome, saying, “We accept the choice the country made. He added, “I’ve said many times, you can't love your country only when you win. You can't love your neighbor only when you agree,” as he urged unity.
Biden continued, “Something I hope we can do no matter who you voted for is see each other not as adversaries, but as fellow Americans,” encouraging the nation to “bring down the temperature.”
In his remarks, Biden reaffirmed his commitment to a "peaceful and orderly transition" of power and assured that his administration would collaborate with the president-elect’s team to achieve this.
Biden also praised Harris’ team for their “inspiring campaign.”
“She has a backbone like a ramrod; she has great character, true character. She gave her whole heart and effort, and she and her entire team should be proud of the campaign they ran,” he shared.
Harris and her team had a relatively short window to prepare for the 2024 presidential campaign. She officially entered the race four months ago after Biden decided not to seek a second term.
