This week in good Black news brings inspiring wins in Black leadership.

Angela Alsobrooks broke barriers as Maryland’s first Black woman elected to the U.S. Senate. In Georgia, powerhouse prosecutor Fani Willis, known for her cases against now-President-elect Donald Trump and rapper Young Thug, won reelection as Fulton County District Attorney. Meanwhile, media entrepreneur Jason Lee claimed victory after unseating Stockton's incumbent vice mayor.

  • The Weeknd Gears Up for Big Screen Debut

    The Weeknd is set to make his cinematic debut with Hurry Up Tomorrow, a psychological thriller tied to his upcoming album of the same name.

    The singer-songwriter will star alongside Jenna Ortega and Barry Keoghan and score the film with producer Daniel Lopatin (aka Oneohtrix Point Never).

    Not much is known about the project yet; however, Lionsgate, which holds the worldwide theatrical rights, describes it as a groundbreaking, musically driven experience.

  • Fani Willis Wins Reelection

    Fani Willis, the Georgia prosecutor known for her high-profile cases, has successfully won her reelection as Fulton County District Attorney. 

    Willis defeated Republican challenger Courtney Kramer, securing another term despite what proved to be a challenging night for Democrats across various races.

  • Angela Alsobrooks Makes History

    Angela Alsobrooks has made history as Maryland’s first Black woman elected to the U.S. Senate after defeating Republican Larry Hogan in a tightly watched race. 

    A Prince George's County native and county executive since 2018, Alsobrooks reflected on the historic moment in her victory speech, acknowledging the sacrifices of those before her: "In all those years, there have been more than 2,000 people who have served in the United States Senate. Only three have looked like me." 

    Alsobrooks’ win makes her only the fourth Black woman ever to hold a Senate seat.

  • Stevie Wonder's Iconic Career to be Celebrated

    Stevie Wonder fans have a reason to celebrate as his legendary career is honored with The Definitive Collection, a 21-track vinyl release featuring some of his most iconic songs like “You Are the Sunshine of My Life” and “Higher Ground.” 

    This special edition, available exclusively through the Complex Shop as a 2xLP yellow vinyl, includes unique touches such as rare photos, braille embossing, full credits, and a tribute essay.   • Jason Lee Elected to City Council

    Jason Lee has officially joined Stockton’s City Council after a decisive election win, securing the District 6 seat. The “Hollywood Unlocked” founder unseated incumbent Vice Mayor Kimberley Warmsley, claiming victory by a significant margin on Tuesday evening (Nov. 5). 

    Representing Stockton's south side, Lee took to Instagram the following morning to express gratitude, stating he’s "deeply honored" by the trust placed in him and ready to “write a whole new book” for Stockton.
