Sheila E. Is Remembering Prince in the Most Beautiful Way
While Prince's death definitely left the world at a standstill, it affected his former lover and collaborator, Sheila E., even harder. The singer/drummer expained she received the news while recording a dance album and chose to go in another direction to tribute her iconic ex-fiancée.
"I decided to write a whole new album. And it feels right," she told Billboard of the project, titled Girl Meets Boy.
Continuing to heal through music, she agreed to join Janelle Monáe, The Roots and D'Angelo to tribute the Purple One at the 2016 BET Awards, but admits she was a bit hesitant at first.
"I wasn't sure I could do it even though I said yes," she said. "It's actually been a part of my healing now, trying to figure out what I was going to play and what would be okay to make sure I would get through it. But it's going to be fun."
Tune in on June 26 to see what she and the other amazing performers come up with to remember the music legend.
