Tiffany Haddish Has Emotional Reunion with Teacher Who Taught Her How to Read in High School
Tiffany Haddish is paying respect to a teacher who helped her overcome a major hurdle.
During the May 7th live taping of "The View" on ABC, the comedian showed her support for a teacher who supported her in high school, according to PEOPLE.
The "Girls Trip" star said Mrs. Grieb, "figured out that I couldn’t read. I was very good at hiding and masking and pretending, and she figured out that I couldn’t do it very well," while she was in the 9th grade.
That's when Mrs. Grieb jumped into action.
“She would have me come to her class at lunch, in that 15-minute break, and she would give me magazines and newspapers and she would sit with me to read. Basically, by the end of the semester I was reading!” the actress said.
While the multihyphenate and the teacher have stayed in touch over the years, this was the first they'd seen each other face-to-face in 25 years.
“Thank you so much for being patient with me,” Haddish told the teacher. “Thank you so much for always encouraging me, and taking time with me and listening to me.”
During the episode, Haddish also discussed her new memoir, "I Curse You with Joy." Of its release, she said, “I felt like I needed to live a little more life and get a better understanding of where I am now.”
