Questlove Unveils SNL Music Documentary
Prepare to relive some of the most memorable musical performances to ever take place on “Saturday Night Live” with a new documentary, “Ladies & Gentlemen… 50 Years of SNL Music,” from Academy Award-winning director Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson.
Co-directed with Emmy winner and SNL segment director Oz Rodriguez, this three-hour special will feature a blend of sketches, performances, and interviews with over 50 artists who have graced the SNL stage.
Quest expressed his enthusiasm for the upcoming project in a statement, noting that revisiting SNL's extensive archival footage was akin to a “time-travel experience.”
“Everyone knows the most famous ‘SNL’ appearances, whether it’s Elvis Costello, Prince, or the Beastie Boys, but they’re the tip of a huge iceberg,” he added.
“Ladies & Gentlemen...50 Years of SNL Music” is scheduled to premiere on NBC on January 27, 2025, at 8 p.m. and streaming on Peacock the following day.
The newest project adds to the musician’s impressive repertoire in filmmaking. His directorial debut, “Summer of Soul (…Or, When the Revolution Could Not Be Televised),” spotlighted the 1969 Harlem Cultural Festival. The effort earned the musician his first Oscar for Best Documentary Feature, as well as a Grammy Award for Best Music Film.
