New Music Friday: Sahbabii, Boldy James and More New Music Ahead of the Holidays
Season's greetings from our favorites in hip-hop and R&B this week. Sahbabii gives us a “Lu Bit” more on an expanded version of his latest LP, “Saheem.” It’s a west coast connection between Mozzy and Kalan.FrFr’s “Lucky Her,” their first joint album.
Check out more new music to keep in your holiday rotation.
Mozzy & Kalan.FrFr - “Lucky Her”
With a propensity for hip-hop, R&B, rider music and straight West Coast vibes, rappers Mozzy and Kalan.FrFr make it feel like summertime on their first collaborative album, “Lucky Her.” While the artists hold it down for California on tracks “My Hood,” “Speedin!” and “Run Em Over,” they also connect with Baltimore’s Shordie Shordie, Detroit’s Skilla Baby and New Orleans’ Rob49.
SahBabii - “Saaheem (A Lu Bit More)”
Although he’s a Chicago native, SahBabii has transformed Atlanta into a colorful and vividly detailed playground throughout his career. On his new album, “Saaheem,” he reintroduces the best artistic version of himself yet, and to thank fans, he’s presented us with an “A Lu Bit More” deluxe edition. On the LP are three new songs, “Workin,” “Show Off,” and “Grandson.”
Boldy James & WhoTheHellIsCarlo - “Hidden in Plain Sight”
Not long after dropping the Harry Fraud-produced “The Bricktionary,” Boldy James joins forces with WhoTheHellIsCarlo for their new offering, “Hidden in Plain Sight.” While the two make a perfect combination, complementing the EP are featured artists Conway the Machine, Styles P, King Hendrick$, and Zelooperz.
Quezz Ruthless - “Y.N.S (Deluxe)”
Rising Memphis rapper Quezz Ruthless reintroduces his latest album, “Y.N.S.,” with an expanded edition that features six new songs. While songs like "They Ain't Havin' Nun" and "Youngest Turnt" show that the 22-year-old is the life of the party, it’s on “Tired of Fighting” where he solemnly reflects on the passing of his brother, Big Scarr, who also makes a posthumous appearance on the original tracklist.
Jane Handcock and Charlie Bereal - “I Can't Recall It”
Snoop Dogg has introduced the new era of Death Row Records with R&B artists Jane Handcock and Charlie Bereal, who deliver the spirit of soul on their new single “I Can’t Recall It.” Sonically, the track references 1970s Marvin Gaye through its irresistible groove and Handcock and Bereal’s impassioned vocals.
Jourden - “Minerals”
Months after her “Straight, No Chase” EP's release, Jourden delivered the New York-centric music video for “Minerals.” Dubbing herself “Crooklyn’s Finest,” the R&B singer takes us through the Big Apple to taste her gritty roots.
