Lil Wayne, Birdman, and Slim Host 16th Annual Turkey Giveaway

The artists handed out free birds to families in their hometown New Orleans.

Lil Wayne, Birdman, Slim, and other members of the Cash Money team hosted their 16th annual turkey giveaway in New Orleans Friday. While the group handed out free birds for the Thanksgiving holiday to the public, MTV News caught up with the trio to talk about the charitable event. Lil Wayne mentioned that due to his intense schedule, it was the first time in nine years that he was able to participate in the group's giveaway.

"It's actually been my first time back here for the past eight or nine years and they’ve been doing this for fifteen years," Wayne said. "Me just being super busy, always being on tour or something like that. But this is amazing, especially experiencing it now from the point of view of 29-year-old a person with the things that he needs in place."

“Those times I did it years ago, I was a kid and I was just doing it because Baby said we were giving away turkeys at a park--and that’s what we were doing," he continued. "Now its a totally different feeling because I can actually give you that and say here, ‘Happy Thanksgiving,’ and I can actually provide that for you. That’s a different feeling in general and it’s a beautiful feeling over-all."

Slim also expressed how special the event was for him and the importance of giving back to his community.

"It's special for us because all we do all year round and then be successful and be blessed," Slim said. "God blessed people to bless other people. So it makes it so special for us to come back home and see the smile on people's face as they receive their turkeys and all the other items that go with it. So it's real big and real special for us."

Birdman said that he hoped good would come of their efforts and that others would see them as role models.

"We once was them so for me to see that they see us hopefully it's an inspiration to them and some positive could come out of it," he said. "'Cause we once was them."
