The comedy world lost one of the greats earlier today with the passing of Charlie Murphy.

Having died this morning after an ongoing battle with leukemia, Murphy left behind a full family who is now mourning his loss. Now, in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter, the family remembers the late comedian, and a recent interview from his younger brother, Eddie, shows that he will definitely be missed by all.

"Our hearts are heavy with the loss today of our son, brother, father, uncle and friend Charlie," the family said in a statement. "Charlie filled our family with love and laughter and there won't be a day that goes by that his presence will not be missed. Thank you for the outpouring of condolences and prayers. We respectfully ask for privacy during this time of great loss for all of us."

Charlie rose to fame after his rousing performance on Dave Chappelle's Comedy Central skit series, Chappelle's Show. While this program saw him garner a reliable fan base, it was his younger brother, Eddie, who remained his biggest cheerleader.

Variety recently uncovered an interview they conducted with the Coming to America star last September where he lovingly spoke about his older brother.

"Charlie is actually my best impression," he said. "I've been doing him since I was two or three. He was my first impression."

Poking fun at his accomplished big bro, he added, "I wish he would get famous because people could see this great impression that I do."

Proving the two have always had a relationship filled with mutual admiration, Charlie spoke with Essence in 2009 about how close he and Eddie were.

"I've never felt like I was living in anyone's shadow," he said. "My life was what it was. I was always proud of my brother. He helped me tremendously, but we're family so we were never in his shadow."
