Update: A jury deliberated for seven and a half hours Friday before declaring that Ronald Gasser was guilty of the December 2016 road-rage shooting death of former NFL running back Joe McKnight.

According to The New Orleans Advocate, Gasser is facing a maximum of 40 years in prison, which would essentially be a life sentence for the 56-year-old. And McKnight's family is calling for Gasser to get that "life in prison" ahead of his scheduled March 15 sentencing.

That's what Michelle Quick, McKnight's ex and the mother of their 8-year-old son, Jaiden, said while speaking with TMZ Sports recently.

"He never needs to walk the streets ever again," Quick told the celebrity news website with Jaiden sitting beside her. "I think the proper sentence is life in prison. He never needs to be out in society."

John Shilling says he was the one who was attacked by Ronald Gasser in 2006 on the Crescent City Connection bridge. He told the Daily Mail that he called the number on the back of Gasser’s truck to report irresponsible driving and ended up being attacked after the phone call really went to the truck’s occupant. Gasser followed Shilling to a gas station and beat him with a closed fist. He also claims his assailant spit on him.

Eventually, Ronald Gasser was issued a misdemeanor summons for simple battery, which was eventually dismissed for reasons unknown. Shilling is a former police officer who is now even more creeped out by his decade-old encounter. “Who knows if he had a gun in the truck then?” Shilling wonders.

Ronald Gasser did not receive any charges after killing Joe McKnight. He admitted to police that he was the gunman. A witness, who did not give her name, claims Gasser and McKnight were arguing, however McKnight was attempting to apologize. That’s when Gasser pulled a gun on McKnight and shot him more than once.
